BiteSized: Catching Up

BiteSized title

Hello everybody, and Happy Mother’s Day for those in North America.

I’m gonna start start a new segment called BiteSized, where I quickly chime in on things from the past week or two. Let me hear some feedback if you guys like/dislike this idea. Remember I do this for fun, so there will be times I miss a week or so.

That being said, last weekend was fairly busy with WEC, IMSA, SuperGT and DTM all racing. Having watched all the above races besides DTM, it was a very good weekend of racing.

One thing that stood out last weekend was all the sweeps. THE SWEEPS! It was the spring cleaning event last weekend. You had Toyota, Mercedes, Lexus, BMW, Ferrari and Cadillac getting at least a 1-2 or two cars on their class podiums. Toyota dominated WEC LMP1, Ferrari dominated WEC GTE-Pro, Cadillac utterly dominated IMSA P, Mercedes dominated IMSA GTD (also would have had two cars in SuperGT GT300, had Hatsune Miku not gotten 2 punctures in the race), BMW had a great start but choked the win in IMSA GTLM, and Lexus got a 1-2-3-5-7 in SuperGT. *takes a big breath in*

….sweeeps!

Lexus finally got a win in GT300 with the new-and-improved RC-F GT3, the first win outside of VLN in a homologated class. They were fairly “meh” on track, and took the lead on brilliant race stategy over the Gainer AMG GT3. Hatsune Miku AMG GT3 had dominated the race early on but suffered 2 front-left punctures, which wasn’t due to damage so I was thinking it was clipping a kerb one too many times. Look out for these guys at Spa 24, should be a good race. They have been on fire lately in SuperGT, hopefully they can carry that momentum forward to that race.

Today’s F1 race in Spain was pretty eventful, with 3 cars out due to collisions in Turn 1. Mercedes baited Ferrari into an early pit stop, which worked out for them. Yes I was adamant about the undercut in my last post, but Mercedes used the overcut to perfection (albeit on softer tires, but whatever). Hamilton getting the well deserved win.

NEXT WEEKEND is the PWC Canadian round at Mosport. I will be there that weekend, grabbing pics and first hand account of the action for PWC, CTCC, NASCAR Pinty’s, Micra Cup (should be awesome), and others.

On a more personal note, we should be having our chumpcar out for first weekend of June for a shakedown. We might not be making the Mosport race after all but could be doing some other events instead. Be sure to check in for some onboard footage!

I leave you guys with some personal footage from the last preseason karting event I’m doing this year. It’s the first time I am doing Arrive and Drive championship at Goodwood Kartways in Ontario, Canada. It’s a pretty awesome track, which I’m still learning but hopefully I can be competitive this year.
