Hello everybody, and welcome back to another edition of Steve’s Motorsports Blog!
This weekend marked the first ever Markham Indy, at the brand new street course just north of Toronto. With a new track, there was a lot of hype and excitement, but is it better than the old Exhibition Circuit in downtown Toronto? Well, I went to find out!
Admittedly, I hadn’t been to the Toronto Indy since I was a baby; it was something I didn’t really do as a kid since we always were at the family cottage on most weekends during the summer. However, in my adult life it wasn’t something I wanted to do; getting to and from the track always seemed to be a pain in the butt, especially from where I used to live. One year, I did meet a friend who was at the track with one of his friends that was in a support series that year, but it took me far too long to get down there (on a Friday, even) and parking was a nightmare.

Cue the Markham track; right on a go train station, and literally next to a highway (a stupidly expensive toll highway though…), extremely easy to get to. I decided to take the GO train from my house, so it ended up being about 1/3 the price to park there, as I later found out. The track its self had some pretty good amenities, plenty of vendors and the grandstands were top notch. This was of course after Friday ending up a write-off because the track wasn’t finished in time, but at least it happened at all on Saturday and Sunday.
My only gripe (and in the grand scheme of things is very minor) was that there weren’t many unobstructed places to take photos. With my ticket being up at the Turn 5 hairpin, I tried to get up high enough but still had some catch fencing in the way.
But what a view it was for the race! I stayed their the whole race, and it didn’t disappoint. Lots of chaos at the corner that was supposed to look very different. Prior to the event, it looked like it would have had quite a curvature to it, but ended up being the sharpest corner you can possibly create.

The racing proved very entertaining, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they changed it for next year. A lot of the cars had the anti-stall kick in or outright stall when they had to woah up for a car ahead. This just added to the chaos, but nonetheless added some intrigue to the day.
I’m excited for next year, and I definitely plan on going back, perhaps get a different section ticket or GA tickets so I can walk around more to get some better pictures, but we shall see what happens!
Since I didn’t have that many pictures, I am not going to do a SPS post, instead I’ll put the gallery down below.
